Dr. Carter-Fenk joined our faculty in the fall of 2024 to teach in the physical and general chemistry undergraduate programs and to serve as the department’s undergraduate research coordinator. She obtained a BA in chemistry from The College of Wooster in 2016 followed by a PhD in physical chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2021. As a graduate student in Prof. Heather Allen’s lab, she probed molecular organization at the air/water interface. Following her PhD, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Prof. Michael Fayer’s lab at Stanford University where she studied ultrafast dynamics in deep eutectic solvents and in complex aqueous solutions. Dr. Carter-Fenk is interested in applying spectroscopic and computational tools to inform more sustainable chemical approaches. She is passionate about mentorship and accessibility, and she uses meaningful inquiry-based learning to get students excited about chemistry!
