Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research is an important component of the undergraduate experience at the University of Pittsburgh.  During a typical academic term, an average of 42 undergraduates are participating in faculty-mentored research projects right here on campus, ranging from pure synthesis, through methods development, to trace detection and high-resolution spectroscopic analyses.  Undergraduates interested in doing research in our department should reach out directly to faculty members for whom they may be interested in working.  A list of faculty members who are currently accepting new undergraduate researchers is available in our undergraduate advising office, Chevron 107.

During the semester, most undergraduates in the department participate in research for credit.  During the summer, most undergraduates are supported by one of our department undergraduate research fellowships, including the Wass and McKeever fellowships.  Applications for summer research fellowships are typically accepted in January and February each year.  For more information on how to apply, students should consult with their faculty mentor and/or with a chemistry adviser in Chevron 107.
