The graduate student handbook is your guide to what is expected of you in order to get your MS or Ph.D degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Be sure to check it each year since the requirements do change from time to time.

Every graduate student has to write a theses or dissertation before being awarded a MS or Ph.D degree. Browse our publications section for recently posted theses, dissertations, and presentations. All theses and dissertations are submitted online. Visit the ETD Website for more information on the process.

Many graduate students travel to present their work at national conferences. A number of travel grants are available through the department, the university, and professional societies to help cover the costs associated with such trips.

Graduate Peer Mentoring
The Graduate Peer Mentoring program was initiated by the Graduate Student Advisory Board (GSAB) to support graduate students and post-docs by creating a space where researchers can openly discuss stressful situations, work through difficult issues, and find the resources they need to help them succeed in graduate school and their career. More information on the peer mentoring program can be found here, including the contact information for the graduate student and post-doc mentors.
Graduate Student Mentoring Booklet
This booklet was prepared by the Dietrich School Graduate Council, based on survey responses and other feedback from our own graduate students and faculty. We hope that you will find the booklet to be a valuable resource and a base for productive discussions.
