Program Requirements

Students pursuing a PhD in our department complete four graduate-level courses in chemistry and take the preliminary and comprehensive exams at the ends of their first and second years in the program, respectively. 

MD/PhD students pursue a similar program to that of other chemistry PhD students, but coursework and teaching requirements are adjusted to accommodate the highly multidisciplinary nature of the MD/PhD program.

The graduate program begins with coursework in students' first year, and then transitions to full-time thesis research.  While some exceptions may apply, students are typically expected to complete the degree requirements by the end of their fifth year.
