David Hercules

Professor David Hercules, a distinguished expert in analytical chemistry and a valued former colleague, passed away at the age of 91. Professor Hercules joined the University of Pittsburgh in 1976 as a Professor of Analytical Chemistry. He served as the Chair from 1980 to 1989 and was appointed the first Miles Professor of Chemistry from 1991 to 1994. After leaving Pitt in 1994, he joined Vanderbilt University as the Chair of its Chemistry Department, where he remained throughout his career. A prolific scholar and dedicated educator, Professor Hercules mentored over 130 graduate students and postdocs, and his research resulted in more than 500 publications with nearly 17,000 citations.

Gregg Huston

Gregg Huston was a General Chemistry Laboratory Instructor for the Department of Chemistry from 2008 to 2018. He also served as an Army Engineer Officer and Research Chemist for the Department of Energy.

Michele Monaco

Michele had been with our department for 37 years! She started as an Administrative Assistant to Ted Cohen in the 80s. Following her stint with Ted, she served in the same capacity with Dennis Curran. In late 90s she switched to a role in Faculty Support and then took over as Assistant to the Chair more than ten years ago. Her commitment to the department is unparalleled and she has always set the highest standards of excellence.
