Undergraduate Poster Session

December 22, 2010 - 12:09pm

On Friday, December 10th the Department hosted its inaugural Undergraduate Laboratory Poster Session from 4 - 6 pm in the Connolly Ballroom of Alumni Hall.  In lieu of a written final exam, 131 students from upper level laboratory courses (Introductory Analytical, Instrumental Analysis, Physical Chemistry I, and Physical Chemistry II) presented posters on experimentation they completed during the semester. Over 200 people visited the session to view the posters and talk with the student researchers. In addition to the opportunity for our students to expand their scientific communication skills, the event included refreshments, door prizes, and awards for winning posters in each of the lab courses. The brainchild of Dr. Michelle Ward-Muscatello, this event was made possible by generous support from PPG Industries, Bayer MaterialScience, and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Ward-Muscatello organized the session with the cooperation and hard-working efforts of Department of Chemistry staff members Michael C. Pater, Mary Schwarman, and Mary Beth Conroy.  Congratulations to the winners.
