The Department of Chemistry is Pleased to Announce the Appointment of Two New Members to Our Faculty

April 13, 2011 - 11:53am

Welcome! With emphasis on the interplay of mechanical forces and surface architecture as they relate to the properties of nanoparticles, Dr. Jill Millstone’s research brings a new focus to the Department of Chemistry’s nanoscience research programs. http://www.chem.pitt.edu/people/faculty/jill-millstone Dr. Millstone received her PhD from Northwestern University, where she conducted nanomaterials research in Prof. Chad Mirkin’s group.   Having completed a postdoctoral appointment with Prof. M. J. Frechet at the University of California – Berkeley, Dr. Millstone (whose undergraduate degrees are from Carnegie Mellon University) returns to Pittsburgh to begin her academic appointment at Pitt. The application of multi-dimensional IR spectroscopy to protein science and the dynamics and mechanics of biological structures are among the research interests of Dr. Sean Garrett-Roe.  http://www.chem.pitt.edu/people/faculty/sean-garrett-roe  Dr. Garrett-Roe completed his doctoral studies at the University of California – Berkeley in Prof. Charles B. Harris’ research group.    He comes to the Department of Chemistry following postdoctoral study with Prof. Peter Hamm at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Millstone and Dr. Garrett-Roe to the University of Pittsburgh Department of Chemistry.
