Prof. Haitao Liu receives collaborative grant to develop molecular-precision manufacturing technologies

November 14, 2022 - 9:47am

A research team led by Prof. Haitao Liu (Pitt Chemistry), Prof. Feng Xiong (Pitt Swanson School of Engineering), Prof. David Estrada (Boise State), and Prof. M.P. Anantram (University of Washington) have received an award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop novel methods to construct computer memory with molecular level accuracy. The grant, titled “Manufacturing of Molecular-Precision, Scalable 2D Material Memory Array for Future Electronics,” was funded as part of the NSF Future Manufacturing initiative, which aims to support fundamental research that will catalyze next-generation manufacturing capabilities. The team plans to apply DNA nanostructures to pattern defects and deliver dopant ions to two-dimensional materials and thereby produce high-precision, low-variation devices.
