The front page of the NYTimes has featured physics-based simulations of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant by Prof. Lillian Chong, her graduate student, Anthony Bogetti, and others using her lab's WESTPA software package:

Their results reveal a dramatic opening of the spike that may explain why the Delta strain is more infectious than the original strain. This work was part of a global #COVIDisAirborne team effort that was selected as a Finalist for the 2021 Gordon Bell Special Prize in HPC-based COVID-19 research (see the 25-minute video).
