Jay Auses served as Assistant Chair/Sr Administrative Officer in the Department of Chemistry from May 2010 until April 2016. During his tenure in the department, Jay supervised the day-to-day operations, served as the graduate student liaison, and assisted the department chair. A native of Western Pennsylvania, Jay grew up in Johnstown, earned a BS in chemistry from St. Francis University in Loretto, and earned an MS in chemistry from West Virginia University. During his industrial career, Jay held positions as research scientist, environmental chemist, technical supervisor, and quality manager at the Alcoa Technical Center. He was active in the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh, once having served as president of the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (PITTCON).
