Prof. Kabirul Islam Received NSF Grant

August 3, 2018 - 12:32pm

Kabirul’s group has received a research grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) on a project entitled “Protein-Ligand Interface Engineering for Allele-Specific Regulation of Histone Demethylases and Epigenome Editing”. Aim of this proposal is to combine pharmacological and genetic approaches to tune chromatin-templated chemistry (e.g. C-H hydroxylation-mediated histone demethylation) for controlling gene expression at a precise space and time. The Molecular and Cellular Biosciences Division and the Chemistry of Life Processes Program of the NSF will jointly fund this research. Kabirul’s group recently published an article in the Journal of the American Chemical Society on the topic.
