The Chancellor’s Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship supports students doing a collaborative teaching project with a University of Pittsburgh faculty member. For this project, I will be working with Dr. Michelle Ward to create pre-lecture videos for General Chemistry II that prime students on important topics, discuss them alongside their real-life applications, and provide strategies that helped me understand the material. I do this with the hope of making chemistry feel less abstract and more approachable for students new to the discipline. Through my classes and doing research in the chemistry department, I have seen chemistry’s amazing possibilities, so I hope to promote student interest in the field so they can have a similar experience. During my time at Pitt, I have developed a great passion for teaching through being an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Instructor, and I think this project will allow me to take a step toward my goals of innovating education. In the future, I hope to become a physician in an academic setting to focus on advancing both patient and provider education to help others reach their health and professional goals, respectively.
