The US Air Force Academy, Department of Chemistry ( invites applications for a full-time, 12-month appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The proposed assignment period is currently July 2, 2018 to May 29, 2019. Visiting faculty members will continue to receive their salary from their institution of higher education.  Employees of federal agencies that meet qualifications are also encouraged to apply.  The Air Force Academy will reimburse the institution/agency for the salary and the employer's contribution for basic fringe benefits such as health and life insurance, retirement, and social security.  The position requires a Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline and calls for teaching in their discipline and opportunities for pursuing research in conjunction with ongoing programs in the department will also be available.


The US Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an undergraduate institution that awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead in the United States Air Force and in service to our nation. Faculty applications are invited from candidates who can contribute to this mission by interacting with cadets, both in and out of the classroom, as instructors and mentors. The student body consists of approximately 4,000 men and women representing every state and several foreign countries. The Academy faculty is an integrated group of military and civilian educators. The curriculum includes core academic and professional courses, and 27 disciplinary and interdisciplinary majors.  Through the core curriculum, the United States Air Force Academy’s Department of Chemistry provides all cadets with a fundamental education in chemistry. Our department also provides a comprehensive curriculum for cadets interested in chemistry, biochemistry or materials chemistry to pursue positions in research, development, graduate school or medical/dental school.  For only an undergraduate institution, our laboratory facilities and equipment inventory are among the best in the country, including a broad range of state-of-the-art instrumentation that supports teaching and research efforts.
