Postdoctoral positions are available in the Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University in the area of the preparation and characterization of polymeric materials and organic coatings. Duties will include preparation of coating materials, synthesis of polymers and copolymers, characterization of surfaces using multiple analytical methods, preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication, and presentation of research at national and international meetings. A PhD. In Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Coatings and Polymeric Materials, Polymer Science or related field is required. Also required are good communication skills as demonstrated by record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. Preferred qualifications include: Experience in preparation and characterization of organic and/or polymeric coatings. Characterization of polymer surfaces using atomic force microscopy, nanoIR, contact angle measurements and contact mechanics. Synthesis and characterization of polymers, block copolymers, siloxanes, amphiphilic polymers. Crosslinking chemistry and crosslinking reaction kinetics. Experience with studies of adhesion to material surfaces (previous work with ice or biofoulants is an asset). One or more years of postdoctoral experience.

Positions will be initially for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds.
