Assistant Journal Manager - AIP Publishing - New York, NY

AIP Publishing is seeking an Assistant Journal Manager who will be responsible for supporting activities aimed to ensure the success of a select group of AIP Publishing publications.  The Assistant Journal Manager interacts directly with all the relevant external stakeholders of the journal community – authors, reviewers, readers, editors. And also provides the research, analysis and planning that drives journal objectives, and monitors progress towards targets as well as competitor and Editor performance.

Position:    

  • Support content development strategy to ensure the products are the leading publications in their respective fields through facilitating input from Editors and other stakeholders
  • Track key performance indicators, set targets, and measure success in producing and executing strategy to meet those targets
  • Create and maintain lists of key authors and institutions worldwide
  • Work with Journal Managers and Editors to determine content as a basis for marketing efforts and for focused online features aimed at generating or enhancing presence in key communities 
  • Provide data for the Editors’ Annual report and other periodic analyses for AIPP management
  • Support reporting and preparation for editorial board meetings
  • Monitor editorial schedule and details of planned Special Topic sections, Special Issues  and special articles as well as assisting in the acquisition of articles for such special features
  • Assist with identification of content as a basis for marketing efforts and for focused online features aimed at generating or enhancing presence in key communities 
  • Identify and monitor competing products’ features and conduct competitive analyses to maintain competitive advantage
  • Produce monthly forecasts for editorial and travel expenses

Qualifications:

  • Advanced physical science degree, or Bachelor’s degree required
  • Familiarity with research publication in physics-related journals a must
  • Computer literate knowledge of/experience with internet-based scientific communication
  • Must reside within NY, NJ, CT, MD, VA, PA, MA, RI or Washington, DC.  This is a remote opportunity and relocation may be available.
