Dr. Abul Hussam Receives Anniversary Medallion

Dean John Cooper presents the University of Pittsburgh 225th Anniversary Medallion to alumnus Dr. Abul Hussam who received his Ph.D. in the Department of Chemistry here at the University of Pittsburgh in 1982.  Dr. Hussam is currently a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at George Mason University and is widely recognized for his work in discovering and developing an inexpensive method for purifying arsenic-contaminated drinking water, a challenging problem in many developing countries, including his native land of Bangladesh.  The Department of Chemistry celebrated Dr. Hussam’s contributions to science and humanity with a seminar and a dinner in his honor on October 16th, 2014.  Meherun Nahar, Dr. Hussam’s wife and a Departmental alumnus, was also able to attend.
