Research Associate - University of Siegen in Germany

In the Faculty IV - School of Science and Technology - the University of Siegen offers in the Department of Chemistry - Biology in the field of »Physical and Theoretical Chemistry« no later than April 1st 2018 the position of a

 

Research associate

(Remuneration group E14 TV-L)

in full-time permanent position.

The teaching obligation is 8 hours per week (8 Semesterwochenstunden).

 

Within the field of »Physical and Theoretical Chemistry«, the future holder of the position will teach in the Bachelor’s course in Chemistry (in German) and in the international Master’s course in Chemistry (in English) as well as in related courses, e.g. Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, primarily in the field of theoretical chemistry and quantum mechanics. In research, the future applicant is expected to work independently and self-responsibly in the areas of, among others, applied theoretical chemistry, molecular modelling and simulation. Interdisciplinary problems, which are complementary to the experimental work of the research groups of the Department of Chemistry Biology and the School of Science and Technology, especially in the Center for Micro- and Nanochemistry ( - Center For Micro- and Nanochemistry and Engineering), should also be tackled.

 

Your tasks: The future employee should have special knowledge and interest in the following areas:

 

Teaching of Theoretical Chemistry and Quantum Mechanics,

Methods to calculate molecules or molecular / atomic solids or layers with 1000 and more atoms,

Scale-spanning modelling and simulation (e.g., of colloidal systems or polymers),

Interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experimentally oriented working groups, among other, in the area of Soft Matter and Interfaces.

 

You will give independent and self-responsible lectures and exercises in the mentioned areas, partly in English. In addition, you will be assisting students in research internships and with their thesis work. In addition to your tasks in teaching, independent and self-responsible preparation and execution of research projects is expected. In addition, the willingness to participate in academic self-administration is expected.

 

Your profile:

 

(A) a University degree, completed with a master‘s degree or diploma, or

 

(B) an equivalent degree from a University, technical college or equivalent University,

 

A very good PhD and a full-time occupation for at least one year after completion of the doctorate, which corresponds to the applicant’s pre-qualification and which has given him or her the ability to perform the duties of his or her duties in his or her career.

 

Strong research background (with publications in international journals),

 

Experience in writing grant applications.

 

You have a high level of self - motivation and enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary work of the working groups of the Department of Chemistry and Biology, the School of Science & Technology and the Centre for Micro- and Nanochemistry and Engineering. You are communicative and enjoy working in teams. You have very good English language skills both written and spoken and enjoy sharing content and imparting knowledge, which you have already demonstrated on the job elsewhere.
