The successful candidate will join the Discovery Chemistry Group within research and development. This group will become part of FMC Agricultural Solutions on Nov 1. Position: Agrochemical Research Chemist
Crop Protection is an R&D-based business, dependent upon the introduction of new products to deliver a competitive advantage in the agrochemical industry. DuPont Crop Protection maintains its position as a global leader in the marketplace through its discovery and development of innovative new crop protection chemicals such as the insecticides chlorantraniliprole and cyantraniliprole and the fungicide oxathiapiprolin. Crop Protection Research & Development, Discovery Chemistry employs chemists to design and synthesize new high-performance crop protection molecules that may lead to new commercial products. Following the recent Dow-DuPont merger, Discovery Chemistry and Biology part of the DuPont Crop Protection business including this position and a number of commercial crop protection products will be divested to FMC on November 1.
DuPont has an immediate opening for a motivated Discovery Chemist at Crop Protection's Stine-Haskell Research Center in Newark, DE. We are seeking a Ph.D. chemist with strong grounding in synthetic organic chemistry. Candidates will have a solid knowledge of modern synthetic and separation methodologies, and spectroscopic identification techniques. The ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of scientists is essential, as successful candidates will work closely with other agricultural chemists, computational chemists, biochemists, and biologists in the discovery process.
Under the general direction of a Research Manager, Discovery chemists establish research goals and objectives and manage an independent technical segment of an overall research project. They also develop an understanding of corporate, business and functional needs so as to align their work with overall strategies and objectives.
−Ph.D., Organic Chemistry is required and further post-doctoral experience is preferred.
−Solid knowledge of traditional carbocyclic and heterocyclic chemistry and modern synthetic methodologies, modern separation methods (e.g., MPLC, HPLC), characterization techniques (e.g., NMR, MS/MS, LC/MS, GC/MS & IR), and molecular modeling for the design of synthetic targets are essential.
−The ability to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and to capture and maintain appropriate records and effectively communicate results is essential.
